Mixed Berry Oat Smoothie
Posted on July 31, 2018
Smoothies are the new trend and I follow it because smoothies are healthy, fast to make, delicious, nutritious and make you feel full. They are ideal if you want to lose weight or if you want a quick snack, especially after gym. They are also a great option for a super quick breakfast to make and consume, if you are the kind of person who wakes up 5' before having to leave the house. This smoothie recipe is one of my favorite and it tastes like eating a berry frozen yogurt! Moreover, it is very nutritious as it contains also oat flakes and chia seeds.
I love smoothies because they are very quick to make and they are very nutritious! Actually you can put everything you want in a smoothie following the basic ingredients that are a liquid base, fruits, protein and flavour. For the liquid base you can use milk (regular, almond milk, coconut milk or soya milk), coconut water, orange juice or even plain water. As for fruits, feel free to use fresh or frozen fruits such as all kind of berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries), cherries, banana, pineapple, mango or peach. Additional to fruits you can use spinach or kale to add vitamins. For protein you can use greek yogurt, oat flakes, chia seeds, flax seeds, nuts or nut butter (peanut butter, almond butter, tahini etc.). Finally for flavour you can add honey, vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa powder, ginger (fresh grated or powder) or whatever you like.
In this mixed berry oat smoothie I use milk (regular or unsweetened almond milk), frozen mixed berries, oat flakes, greek yogurt, chia seeds and honey to balance the acidity of the berries. Sometimes I add one tablespoon of tahini, which enhances the flavours and makes the smoothie even more creamier.

Just add all the ingredients in the blender, starting with the liquid ingredients and ending with the honey. In this way the blending will be smoothing and you will not end up with the bottom of your blender covered with honey. Blend until smooth, serve in a big glass and consume! Do not worry if after a while your smoothie starts to split, just give it a good stir and enjoy!
